1. Measure after completing the bathroom

Final measurements should be taken only after the floor tiles, wall tiles, and shower tray have been installed or the floor has been completed.

Adhesive, ceramic tiles, and profiles can change the available dimensions. For this reason, measurements taken before finishing are only approximate.

2. Use the right tools

For the most accurate measurements, you need:

• a metal tape measure;
• a standard or laser spirit level;
• a pencil and paper for recording the dimensions;
• a set square, if you need to check the angles.

Record all measurements in millimetres, as these are more precise than measurements expressed in centimetres.

3. How do you measure the space for a walk-in shower screen? 🚿

For a walk-in shower screen, measure the width of the area where the glass panel will be installed. Check that there is enough space for access and that the chosen size will effectively limit water splashing.

Also measure the available height, especially if the bathroom has a sloping ceiling, beams, windows, or other elements that could affect installation.

Check the wall where the profile will be fixed. It must be sufficiently solid, and there must be no hidden pipes or electrical cables in the installation area.

If the shower screen has a stabilising bar, check the distance to the opposite wall or the position where it will be fixed.

4. How do you measure the opening for a shower door?

For a shower door installed between two walls, measure the opening width at three points:

• at the bottom;
• in the middle;
• at the top.

Walls are not always perfectly straight, and the measurements may differ. Record all three measurements and check the adjustment range specified for the selected model. Do not subtract centimetres from the dimensions unless the manufacturer recommends it.

Also measure the opening height from the finished floor or shower tray surface to the product’s highest point.

5. Check the walls are vertical

Use a spirit level to check whether the walls are straight. A sloping wall can affect the glass position, door closure, and watertightness.

Some profiles allow for minor adjustments, but significant deviations may require a made-to-measure product or surface correction before installation.

6. Check the level of the floor or shower tray

The surface on which the shower screen or door will be installed must be flat and stable. Check the level at several points.

For a walk-in shower installed directly on the floor, the floor must have the correct slope towards the drain, without the incline affecting the positioning of the profile or glass panel.

7. Determine the opening direction

If you choose a hinged shower door, check the direction in which it will open. The door must not hit:

• the washbasin;
• the toilet;
• the furniture;
• the radiator;
• the bathroom entrance door.

For a small bathroom, a sliding door may be more practical because it does not need additional opening space.

When ordering, clearly specify the position of the hinges or the opening direction, viewed from outside the shower area.

8. Consider nearby objects

Note the position of the tap, shower, drain, skirting board, pipes, and furniture. Also check for decorative profiles or changes in level that could prevent proper installation.

The stabilising bar of a walk-in shower screen must not intersect with the window, mirror, or wall-mounted furniture.

9. Do not rely on a single measurement

Repeat each measurement at least twice. If the values differ, check the position of the tape measure and the walls' vertical alignment again.

For a made-to-measure product, it is also recommended that you send clear photos of the space, together with a simple sketch and all recorded dimensions.
